Muhammad, Prince

Muhammad, Prince
(?-1286)
Balban's favorite son, Muham-mad, was appointed governor of Sind and stationed at Multan some time in the 1270s. He was entrusted with the task of checking the Mongol incursions from that side. After the removal of Bughra Khan from Samana in 1279, Muhammad was entrusted with the re-sponsibility of protecting the entire western frontier against the Mon-gols. He was killed in 1286 near Lahore in the course of a skirmish with Mongol raiders. Muhammad was fond of learned society; Amir Khusrau and Amir Hasan Sijzi were in his service at Multan.
